How would you like to have 1.5TB for your mobile devices? That is a lot of photos or 4K videos that could be stored at once. Or for almost anyone, more space than you will ever consume (on a small modern mobile device, at least). It will soon be possible as Micron has achieved this with its 1.5B i400 MicroSD card.
Not only does it offer a massive capacity but it also will be designed to handle up to 5 years of continuous writing. Which is pretty impressive for an SD card.
Of course, you likely won’t be making use of one any time soon since they will be targeted at enterprise users. Which is fine since most consumers won’t have a need for such capacities in their phones or tablets any time soon. Nor would you need it for consumer-level drones or cameras (although we will be getting there as we approach higher resolutions in the near future).
In the meantime, this does show a lot of promise for what’s to come in the mobile storage market. Especially as companies continue to push for SSD speeds. It won’t be long before having access to TB capacities in mobile devices is an average occurrence.
There are no announcements yet as to the read/write speeds of this card nor what the price will be. Although you could expect it to be pretty expensive and not available in any normal retail locations (for now).
