Movo is working on a new product line that will combine some of the most common items you use every day while working or schooling from home (or streaming, or video chatting with your friends, etc). It is the Movo WebMic series. A combination webcam, high-quality condenser microphone, and LED ring light. Covering just about everything you would possibly need for these tasks.
Judging by some of the promotional video content that they have out there already, it looks like it will compete well with brands like Logitech while providing you with better-recorded audio thanks to the mic design/approach. The microphone promising to block out background noise so it can focus on the person in front of the camera while gaining a design that kind of looks a lot like Blue’s Snowball microphone.
It even comes with its own stand, although you’ll supposedly be able to mount it to the top of a laptop or monitor as well using another clamp-style mount that will come with it.
To make things interesting, it does look like they are going after the popularity of Logitech’s Brio webcam as the line will include two 4K models to choose from, with five total models to choose from. Of the (future) available models you will have the microphone by itself (WebMic), two 1080p@30 models (WebMic HD and WebMic HD Pro), and the two 4K options (WebMic 4K and WebMic 4K Pro).
The microphone will feature a gain control knob and headphone jack (for monitoring). The LED light is a normal ring light, built-in, with the ability to control brightness.
At the moment, they are within a Kickstarter phase, with the option of jumping in at as low as $89 for the HD Pro (1080p) model and as low as $139 for the 4K Pro model. Each being 30-47% off the estimated future MSRP launch price.
It does sound like an interesting product and we’d love to see how well the 4K Pro model lives up to something like the Brio. For now, they have 39 days to go within their campaign, with an estimated ship time for backers of June 2021. So we’ll have to wait it out some until these combo options hit the market, to find out.
