Netflix recently put an end to its movies through the mail service where subscribers could rent physical discs. This is the service that started the company before it became an online streaming portal kicking off a new generation of content. Now, it is looking into a different kind of physical presence.
The company is looking into opening physical store locations, which seems a bit strange given the fall of companies like Blockbuster. Even Blockbuster (or what’s left of it) thinks it’s a strange idea as it took to Twitter to make fun of the news.
Oh boy… Should we tell @netflix how this ends?https://t.co/TtrG4gmvxZ

But Netflix hopes to gain some kind of excitement by creating an environment for retail, dining, and entertainment. Starting with a few stores in 2025 and more to come if it proves successful.
The whole idea sounds a bit like what you’d find during San Diego Comic-Con but specific details on what the stores will look like or what they will sell have not been released by the company just yet. So it is hard to say what these stores will contain or what kind of live entertainment the company is looking to host (bands, meet and greets, movie screenings, etc). Our image above is simply a concept we cooked up to at least paint an image of what something like that “could” look like.
