OWC continues to push forward, now launching its new Envoy Pro SX series portable SSDs into the wild. What looks to be a slight upgrade from the FX series, the new SX series is a tad faster and all about Thunderbolt (TB3/TB4) or the new USB4.
It’s all about getting NVMe speeds (up to 2,847MB/S) while on the go and connected to any machine that supports it. Dedicated to content creators (audio, video, etc) who rely on storage being able to keep up with what is being written to it. Especially, those working with 4K content or greater.
Similar to the FX series, it comes with a lot of durability against getting wet (waterproof), dirty, or even dropped (to an extent). Heat dissipation is achieved throughout the enclosed, without a single fan in the mix.
The new drives are available in capacities of 24GB ($199), 480GB ($249), 1TB ($349), and 2TB ($529). All of which can be found via OWC’s website here. They are also available via options like B&H Photo (here) for pre-order at this time.
TB4/USB4 is finally starting to become more common in systems and will continue to do so when Intel releases its Alder Lake series processors later this year.
