Update: Samsung has announced that the recall was due to a bug that was causing random reboots. Still no estimate is given on when a new build will be released.
Original Story: It was just less than a week ago, Samsung had announced the release of Android Oreo (8.0) to their Galaxy S8 and S8+ phones. Finally S8/S8+ users had opportunity to make the jump (unless you had special branded phones from companies like T-Mobile where you have to wait for the update to make it past the carrier’s hands first, so that they can customize it with their bloatware). We too have been waiting on this for quite awhile as we have a handful of S8+ phones walking around here.
However, Samsung just pulled the release, taking it back to the drawing board for reasons they have not specified. The release had only made it to a handful of countries before Samsung obviously decided something wasn’t right. At least, that’s the “best guess” right? What other reason would Samsung have to halt the release of such an exciting update?
For now, patience will have to be had until they have decided that whatever concerns they had, have been addressed. They are actively working on a new build, so it could be days or weeks before we see a new release. Thankfully, those who have already upgraded to Android Oreo won’t have to worry about anything as they can continue with what they have. Once Samsung does release a new build, they should be able to update from there just fine as it will be a higher build version from what they have.
The new Android 8.0 brings a number of new features to devices, including better performance and battery life. There will be PIP (picture-in-picture), allowing you to do something like watch a video while you thumb around other apps (just like you’ve seen within the YouTube app). As well as a long list of other options like autofill (for forms), color enhancements, sound enhancements, Bluetooth enhancements, and so much more.
