Here’s something crazy. What if, you could charge your devices wirelessly throughout your home without ever having to plug them in? It would be a nice feature to have, and it’s actually possible, sort of. The idea comes from making use of radio waves to charge or power low-powered devices. The issue is that it isn’t enough energy for most devices. So instead, Samsung has found a way to combine various options to make it work.
Samsung has upgraded its Eco Remote to do just that. The new TV remote uses a combination of options to keep itself charged along, possibly making it the last time you’d ever have to worry about replacing a remote control’s battery (at least, for that remote). The remote has a small solar panel built-in, so it is able to also collect energy from the light in the room (or sunlight as it would be much more efficient than indoor lighting). Between these two sources of energy, the remote should be able to maintain a charge. Just in case, there is also a USB-C port built into the remote if things don’t work out .
The new remote will be included with the company’s latest 2022 TV models, shipping this year. We will likely be seeing it this week at CES 2022 with additional information to share.
