Western Digital has announced another PCIe NVMe SSD into its WD_Black lineup of products. This time, the company focuses on providing a more affordable option for those who can’t quite justify the cost of jumping into a WD_BLACK SN850. Instead, they now offer the WD_BLACK SN750 SE, bringing low-cost and PCIe 4.0 together into a nice alternative option.
Think of it as the SN750 upgraded to PCIe 4.0 with a small boost in speed. Offering read speeds of up to 3,600MB/s and write speeds of up to 2,830MB/s–which still makes it plenty fast and current for upcoming hardware and current hardware alike. It won’t be one of the fastest drives out there, but it will be easier on both power consumption and budget.
The starting price will be $54.99 for 250GB, so WD is absolutely aiming to make it accessible to a much larger crowd. The WD_BLACK SN750 SE series will also be available as 500GB ($74.99) and 1TB ($129.99) capacities.
The new series will launch sometime this summer. The specific launch date isn’t mentioned, but it looks like the company plans to begin rolling them out within 3-4 weeks. It is currently available for pre-order from Western Digital’s website.
PCIe 4.0 is here to stay as we see more companies moving away from new PCIe 3.0 models and focusing on the new 4.0 specification. By the end of the year, you will likely see everything focused on this from budget-friendly to the biggest beasts in the market.
