I like the sleek design of the Tribit Portable Wireless Speaker and the function of the buttons, especially the volume control buttons. This speaker is basically cylindrical. It stands 7 ¼ inches high, with a 2 ½ inch diameter. The removable strap that is provided is very sturdy, attached by a screw post. I am confident that both the strap and post are sufficient for the weight of the speaker (19.2 oz) and will hold up for quite a long time, even with some abuse! Even the speaker itself seems like it can take a bit of wear and tear. There is an aux-in port though the speaker does not come with a stereo audio jack cable. It does come with a micro USB cable for charging which is 2 feet long. You can daisy chain two of Tribit wireless speakers together though I only had one for this review. The Tribit Portable Wireless Speaker comes in Black, Blue, or Red.
Connecting to the speaker with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8) was very easy and my phone recognized it every time I turned on the speaker. I haven’t had to redo the connection even after turning it off and on many times. There are easy to follow directions in the user manual should you lose connection. You can control the volume either with your phone or on the speaker itself and, just so you know, it will play both the song you are listening to and the music of the stupid game you are playing at the same time, if you don’t turn off the sound of the game! Of course, that is more the function of the phone than the speaker but you can clearly hear both! I was able to walk about 25yds (75’) away from the speaker before it started to cut out. I was also able to go around a corner (out of sight) about 10 yards (30’) from the speaker before it started to cut out. On a full charge I got just under 19 hours out of it. I played it pretty loud for only about 2 hours of that time.
The sound quality is very clear all the way up to the speaker’s loudest level. Nice crisp treble and good full mids. It is about as loud as a speaker of this size and cost would be expected to go, but the StormBox bass mode does not seem to boost the bass much at all. It might be important to note that I am not overly fond of a lot of bass. I prefer a balanced amount so if I say it doesn’t boost it much then it really doesn’t boost it much! That is not to say that the bass isn’t clear and resonate but even I would have liked more.
Phone conversations sound very clear but you do have to be pretty close to the speaker to talk to the person. You need to be about a foot away otherwise I am told that you sound far away. I did notice that the person on the other end sounded clearer from one side more than from the other, or from what I would think is the front. Which brings me to output. Because the volume control and the multifunction button are on the side that is opposite to the on/off, Bluetooth, and bass mode buttons, as well as the battery indicator lights, charging, and aux-in ports, I would think that that would be the “front” of the speaker. Well, if we can agree that is the case then the best sound comes out of what I would consider the sides. This speaker is advertised as omni directional (360 degree) and for the most part it is! Most people probably wouldn’t really notice much difference no matter where they were relative to the speaker, however I could definitely hear a difference in sound quality on the different sides.
Conclusion
I do like this speaker and could recommend it! If the durability holds up like I believe it will then I think it is worth the cost. I like it enough that I am not willing to test how much abuse it can take! I want to keep using it!!
