Aeotec has launched their latest Z-Wave smart plug into the market supporting the Gen7 Z-Wave protocol. The new device is called the Aeotec Smart Switch 7. Not to be confused with any kind of smart light switch (despite the name), this is a plug adapter for an outlet that allows you to add any device or appliance to your smart network.
The new plug fully supports a home’s outlet capability of up to 15A, allowing you to use it with any normal appliance up to this amperage amount. It also offers surge protection of up to 2,000 volts, which is quite a bonus for a plug adapter of this size.
To add a little icing to the cake, it offers the one thing many of these smart plugs (still) lack in features: energy monitoring. For some reason, the market is littered with options that do not offer this. Given, some of those options are quite affordable, so it is common to expect some missing features. However, some of the options priced similar to this lack this feature as well. Energy monitoring is one of the most powerful features a smart plug could offer its owner. So it is nice to see this included in this model.
