Amazon launched the Echo Look camera back in 2017, bringing with it some neat features that help influence and advise purchase decisions through AI. However, Amazon has decided that it is no longer relevant to their product timeline and has made the decision to send it to the guillotine. As of July 24th, the Echo Look will be discontinued. This goes beyond support and updates as the device will actually cease to function at this time.
Customers have the ability to back up their data (photos/video) to a free Amazon Photos account before the guillotine hits in July. This is detailed in an email that was sent out to customers alerting them of the unfortunate situation.
So where does this leave you if you bought one of these? Amazon is promoting their recycling options, allowing you to send the device where it would be properly disposed of. The process is easy, and they provide a UPS shipping label. However, this still leaves you with a device you paid a bit of money for that is now useless. Thankfully, Amazon seems to have you covered and has done something that many companies fail to provide. An option to swap it out.
They may not be offering any form of a refund, but they are offering to send owners of an Echo Look a free Echo Show 5 device, creating a positive bond with their customers vs driving them away. If you are an Echo Look owner, you should purchase an Echo Show 5 device using the same Amazon account the Look is associated with. Upon check out, use the code “ECHOLOOK20” and it should be discounted down to free. Refer to the email that was sent out by Amazon for more information. You should have plenty of time to do this before the deal is expired later in the year.
The Echo Look has paved the way for new features that have and will continue to be integrated into the Amazon Shopping app as well as certain Alexa-supported devices. So although the Echo Look is now dead, its purpose will live on through these options.
