It’s hard to believe that the Xbox 360 was released way back in 2005. It really doesn’t feel like that long ago. So many great experiences were had on that console by many despite the ominous amount of RRoD (red ring of death) occurrences. This console ushered in a new age for Microsoft and a solid spot in the video game industry.
Now, the company feels that its time has finally passed. With that, it is ending support for the online store on these consoles on July 29th, 2024. This will mean that players, on the old console, will no longer have access to buying games, watching TV/movies, or customizing their avatars online.
This only affects content that you don’t already own. So you will still be able to play and download the digital content you already have by visiting your download history (instead of the store). With the exception of TV and movies since the related app will no longer be supported. You will also be able to continue playing multiplayer and receiving any potential updates to these games.
Newer generation consoles will not only continue to have access to these games, but you will also be able to purchase the older backward compatible games as well. So the changes only affect you if you are using the Xbox 360 console.
