Typically for the price conscious, Philips has been a licensed brand that is filled with selection for those not looking to spend big money on tech. Similar to companies like RCA and Polaroid, their reach spans into so many product categories, and one of these includes computer monitors/displays.
Today, a company by the name of EDI (one of the brands behind Philips) has announced a new monitor for the Philips product family, the Philips Brilliance 49-inch 492P8 Curved Super-wide LCD display. This new display has recently won 2018 iF Design Award and looks to target gamers, designers, editors and more.
With a 5120×1440 resolution, it isn’t 4K, but does promise somelthing better than your average 1080p alternatives. The curved design (1800R curvature) on a monitor of its size, helps to give the screen a little wrap arounds your head, allowing a more natural view for your eyes, while mimicking a multi-monitor approach feel.
It has a frameless display and gives you all of the needed inputs on the back (DisplayPort, HDMI, USB-C, VGA, USB 3.0 and even Ethernet). Some of its other features include up-to 600 nits brightness, up to 5000:1 contrast ratio and 178 degree viewing angles.
“We are very excited and proud that our Brilliance 492P8 curved display has been recognized by iF Design Award jury. We take this as a confirmation of our outstanding capabilities in innovation and design and continue on our path to provide leading product innovations with dedicated design focus to the market,” says David Ray, Marketing Director for North America at EPI.
They plan to launch the new display sometime during the fourth quarter of this year (2018), so you can’t expect to find one just yet.
