Sony is having trouble when it comes to selling all of the PSVR2 headsets it has manufactured. So much so that it has decided to halt production of new models as the current stock continues to pile.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with the headsets themselves. The PSVR2 is one of the best options out there for gamers. Offering impressive visuals and response times while not having to pack a lot of impressive hardware to pull it off since the console is doing most of the heavy lifting. Games are immersive and entertaining, making it far more popular than the original PSVR.
So what’s wrong then? Like most accessories that have a lot of promise but just never take off (like the Microsoft Kinect), it is the amount of content available to them. This is the number one destroyer of such products. Or in this case (hopefully), the one thing that is just delaying the success of the PSVR2. There just aren’t enough games out there (yet).
Due to this, not enough people are buying the headset. Causing sales to fumble and not keep up with the number of headsets being manufactured. So Sony has halted the production of new units in an attempt to allow the stock that has been building up to go down some.
Of course, the best way to solve this issue is to start pushing for more PSVR2-supported games and fast-forward the process of opening it up for use with PCs. If this doesn’t happen, sales are going to continue to go down as gamers seek out alternative options. Eventually, the PSVR will become another product sitting in a museum of video game accessory mishaps. Again though, hopefully, that doesn’t happen.
